Activity Name: Agricultural-Environmental-Climate payments (Measure 10)

OBJECTIVES

Zmanjšati vplive kmetovanja na okolje

EXPECTED RESULTS

Preservation of biodiversity and landscape, proper water management and soil management and mitigation and adaptation of farming to climate change.

SUMMARY

The agricultural-environmental-climate payments measure (Measure AECP) supports agriculture in its environmental function and is intended to encourage higher standards of sustainable agricultural practices that are focused on preserving biodiversity and landscape, proper water management and soil management and mitigation and adaptation of farming to climate change. These payments encourage the implementation of farming practices that go beyond mandatory standards, also known as “good agricultural practice”. These are not income payments but payments for covering additional costs and loss of income due to the implementation of higher standards in measure AECP. The farmer is rewarded as an environmental steward through these payments, who, in addition to producing food, preserves nature, protects water and soil and maintains landscapes, but also performs socially important services and non-market public goods.

OPERATION VITICULTURE

The operation “Viticulture” means a change in existing farming practices. It is aimed at preserving and improving the properties and fertility of the soil with controlled use of fertilizers and phytopharmaceuticals, it also contributes to reducing erosion and leaching of nutrients.

OPERATION CONSERVATION OF PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES AT RISK OF GENETIC EROSION

Operation “Preservation of Plant Genetic Resources at Risk of Genetic Erosion” means changing existing agricultural practices and is aimed at protecting and preserving the original properties and genetic variability of native and traditional varieties of grains, corn, potatoes, oilseeds, forage plants, vegetables, hops, fruit plants and grapevines.

Activity Name: Organic Farming (measure 11)

OBJECTIVES

To encourage agricultural enterprises to implement organic farming methods.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Contribution to the provision of public goods, particularly in the preservation or improvement of biodiversity, maintenance of sources of drinking water, soil fertility, cultural agricultural landscape, and protection of the environment in general.

Activity Name: Payments for areas with natural or other specific restrictions (measure 13)

OBJECTIVES

To maintain the cultivation of agricultural land, maintain the population in rural areas and provide public benefits in areas with natural or other specific restrictions (OMD).

EXPECTED RESULTS

OMD payments will contribute to the preservation and promotion of sustainable farming systems, preservation of the cultural landscape of rural areas and sustainable use of agricultural land.

SUMMARY

Slovenia has a large share of agricultural land in areas with natural or other specific constraints, which reduces the competitiveness of Slovenian agriculture, limits the choice of possible production directions, and increases production costs. This leads to abandonment of farming in these areas, overgrowth of agricultural land, loss of biodiversity, and agricultural landscape.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

By maintaining agricultural land in productive function, we not only maintain the production potential of agricultural land, but also the available natural resources, which is the living and economic space for the locals as well as space for recreation and leisure time for people outside these areas.
